Mariachi Reyes del Aserradero - Sones de Jalisco

All over Mexico, when the first note of the mariachi trumpet sounds, the party has begun. But, as this CD shows, the mariachi repertoire goes well beyond the commercial ranchera classics, to include the original sones from Jalisco, the traditional music of the mariachis before they became stars of screen and radio.

Mariachi Reyes del Aserradero are amongst few groups that still include the old sones in their repertoire, playing the complex melodies and urgent rhythms with a skill that very few can master today.

Unlike most mariachis, Los Reyes have never tried to make their fortune in Mexico City or Los Angeles. A mariachi of their calibre has plenty of work at home, in Jalisco, where this music was born.
