Together with Mario Caracasés, Bebeto is the founder and lead vocalist of an outstanding Cuban son band, Los Jubilados. Born and raised, like the son itself, on the streets of Santiago de Cuba, Bebeto was the vocalist in Santiago's most important dance band in the 50s and 60s before retiring. When the music of his youth returned to popularity in the '90s, Bebeto returned to the stage to show the young musicians what this music is all about.

From the first of Los Jubilados' three CDs, 'Sueña Guajira' is a bolero love song which Bebeto wrote for his wife who died in 2000. Like Alejandro Almenaris, he is one of very few composers who are writing new songs in the genre of Cuban son and bolero, most of the bands continue to cover the classics from the first part of the 20th century.
