Without
doubt one of the great singers of Africa, Kasse Mady is, like
his countryman Salif Keita, famous in Mali for playing traditional
music with a contemporary flavour that successfully takes the
old epic songs to the African dance floor. Whereas, in the 1980s,
Keita managed to launch this music internationally, Kasse Mady
remained a star in his own country and it is not until the launch
of his new CD, Kassi Kasse, that he is expected to reach the
same level of international fame.
'Eh Ya Ye' is a song that bears Kasse's stamp of outstanding
traditional African acoustic music with a very contemporary
feel. This track was recorded in the village where he was born
and which is the stronghold of the 'griot' troubadours who are
the hereditary musicians and peacemakers in Malian society.
'Eh ya ye' breaks the barriers of culture and language
and speaks, with rhythm and soul, straight to the heart.
