This
excepcional Cuban singer, 'The Black Angel with the Velvet Voice'
has toured Mexico seven times and has a strong public here although
outside Mexico and Cuba he is little known. This will change
as from May 2002 when, as the guest of the Mexican danzón
orchestra, Felipe Urbán y su Danzonera, he will
tour most of the important summer festivals in France.
Classically
trained, Armando left Renaissance music behind to return to
the music of his childhood in Santiago de Cuba and his exquisite
voice Ð in the range of a countertenor Ð embraces the Cuban
boleros and refuses to let go.
As
a soloist, Armando has been accompanied by a wide range of top
musicians from the Cuban jazz combos to traditional trova bands.
At the same time as this current project with the danzón
orchestra, Armando is preparing a cabaret act with one of Mexico's
top classical pianists, Alberto Cruz Prieto.
